3 Common Reasons to Consider an HVAC Replacement

November 18, 2020

You rely on your heating and cooling system to keep your home or business in Helena, MT, comfortable. The sub-freezing nighttime winter temperatures and summertime daytime temperatures in the mid-80s mean that you need reliable heating and cooling functions. An HVAC replacement is one of the more expensive systems to replace in your home or business. Here are three reasons to consider a new HVAC installation.

Frequent System Breakdowns

Once a heating or cooling system approaches the end of its typical lifespan, it will need more frequent repairs. Intermittent breakdowns disrupt your comfort and cause a lot of stress. If your heating or cooling system needs recurrent repairs, consider a replacement. A system that needs a major repair that costs up to one-third the price of a new system could also benefit from HVAC replacement.

Low Energy Efficiency

Another reason to install a new HVAC system is low energy efficiency. You might notice an increase in utility bills without much changing your thermostat. As heating and cooling systems age, they lose efficiency. Heating and cooling account for about 50 percent of most household energy use. According to Energy Star, replacing a 10-year-old heat pump or air conditioner with an Energy Star-rated unit could lower your utility costs by about 20 percent.

Indoor Air Quality or Comfort Problems

Poor indoor air quality is another reason to replace your heating and cooling system. You may notice more dust and problems with allergy or asthma. Poor humidity control is another sign that heating and cooling equipment needs to be replaced. If certain rooms of your home or areas of your business are too hot or too cold, consider replacing your current system. Heating and cooling systems that make too much noise are also good candidates for replacement.
